Ceremony in Commemoration of Attar Held in Tashkent

Several professors and students of the Persian language as well as the Iranian ambassador to Uzbekistan and Iranians residing in Uzbekistan took part in the ceremony.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Fath’ali said that literary figures such as Attar show humans’ hidden potential to reach the spiritual world.  

“Several world famous literary figures also arose in the land of art lovers of Uzbekistan, such as Amir Alishir Nava’i, and served the world of art and mysticism,” he added.

Najmeddin Kamalov, an Uzbek participant, said, “We know Iranian poets like Hafez, Sa’di, Rumi, and Attar well in our country. Many poets were inspired by Attar’s poetry.”

Iranian professor Mohammad-Hassan Hassanzadeh later discussed the mysticism in Attar’s poetry.

Thirteen articles by professors of Tashkent universities were presented at the ceremony.

Tashkent Orientology University offers courses in 20 Asian and European languages, including Persian.

The most celebrated work of Attar (1145?-1221?) is Mantiq al-Tayr (The Conference of the Birds), a poem consisting of 4600 couplets.
